Ice Cubes for Glass Skin? Here's What Happened When I Tried It

So, there's this trend going around where people rub ice cubes on their faces every morning and claim it gives them "glass skin."

I've seen it all at this point snail slime, salmon sperm (don't get me started) but something about this one caught my attention.

It's simple. It's free. And it doesn't involve putting anything sketchy on your skin.

You can use just frozen water, frozen green tea, or aloe vera juice, depending on how fancy you're feeling.

So naturally… I had to try it.

First off, What is this trend?

The idea is to freeze a cube of green tea, rose water, or even water and rub it across your face every morning.

TikTok's calling it a cold therapy skincare hack that:

  • Depuffs your face
  • Tightens your skin
  • Shrinks your pores
  • It gives you a glow, fast

Sounds good.

What happens...

Day one: it's freezing. Obviously.

But it did make my skin feel tight, a little firmer, and way more awake, especially under the eyes.

By day three, I was into it.

Thanks to the caffeine, using a green tea ice cube made me feel like I'd just had a facial.

But here's what I also noticed by day five:

  • My cheeks started to feel dry
  • One tiny red capillary popped on the side of my nose.
  • My skin looked a bit irritated.

It turns out that rubbing ice directly on your skin every day might not be the best move, especially if you have sensitive skin (or aren't wrapping it first).

The science behind it

Cold therapy or cryotherapy is a legit thing.

It can:

  • Reduce inflammation
  • Temporarily tighten skin
  • Boost blood flow

But here's what it can't do:

  • Permanently shrink your pores (that's a myth)
  • Replace actual skincare products.
  • Hydrate your skin (unless you're following it up with moisture)

Should you try it?

Sure occasionally.

It's great for morning puffiness after a long night or if you want a quick refresh before a meeting.

But every day? Straight from the freezer? Probably not.

And please, for the love of your face, wrap the ice in something before you rub it on your skin like a caveman.

A final word from me

I like a good DIY. At one point, I built an entire skincare brand from scratch in my kitchen.

But when it comes to your skin, even natural products need a little science and a bit of common sense to be effective.

Would I do this again? Yeah, occasionally.

But every morning? Nah. That's what moisturisers and eye creams are for.
